HASTINGS BEATLES DAY HISTORY

The first Beatles day took place at Pissarros in December 2000.  It was meant to be a one-off event, but was so popular with all those involved, that another date was set for the following April; it was obvious to everyone that a larger venue was needed.

The next dates were held at the Marina Pavilion, St Leonards in April 2001, 2002 and 2003 with Pissarros becoming one of the first sponsors.

In 2004 we moved to Hastings Pier – it’s an amazing venue with a huge history. With the exception of the Beatles, it’s hosted every major act in the sixties.

Brooker & How were also involved from the beginning; the now legendary posters coming from Cliff Brooker (who can forget the Abbey Road cover by the Marina, the Help cover on the Pier and the re-vamped Revolver!) and, of course, the Ultimate Alternative having made so many people aware of the day.

Along the way we have collected sponsors including Hastings Borough Council, Coastal Bus Company, Conveyancing Direct, Berforts Printers and many others – without everybody’s involvement and enthusiasm it couldn’t be staged.

2005 was a wonderful day with over 200 musicians playing to over 2,000 people throughout the day raising over £11,000.  There were some amazing performances throughout the day, but the most unforgettable was our dear friend Eric Roche – he played his last Beatles Day and sadly lost his ‘dance’ with cancer a few months later.

2006 was our third and last year at the Pier (we all hope that this amazing historic venue will soon have its doors open and be back in business).  There were 14 new acts along with old favourites.  It was another successful year raising, once again, over £11,000.

From 2007 to 2011 we hosted Beatles Days 8, 9, 10, 11 & 12 at the White Rock Theatre, and will be doing so again for Beatles Day 13.  We are extremely lucky to have the use of most of the building; there will be acts playing in the main auditorium as well as down in the Sussex Hall.  With 3 bars and restaurant available throughout the day, people will be able to move around the building at their leisure and see the different acts.

And don't forget to buy your raffle tickets for a chance to win some amazing prizes.

A splendid time is guaranteed for all.

Hope to see you on the day.
